Apply for a new permit

You can apply for a residents' or housing estate parking permit online if you have a full driving licence that is valid in the UK, can prove that you are a resident in our borough and can prove you are the main responsible person for your vehicle. See requirements

If you don't have all the requested proofs now you may still apply for a 12 month permit. A temporary permit will then be issued to allow you time (30 days) to supply the missing proofs to upgrade your permit to a full 12 month permit. If you cannot upgrade your permit in that time you will forfeit the fee paid and you will need to make a new application. 6 month permits, 2nd vehicle permits, Off-street permits and permits for foreign registered vehicles are excluded from this temporary permit option and will need to supply all requested proofs at time of application.

Payment for the parking permit will be taken as part of the online application process. If a temporary permit is issued it will be non-refundable until it is upgraded to a full permit, which will ONLY happen when ALL supplied proofs meet requirements, so please make sure that you are eligible for the permit before you apply.

When applying for a lower emissions vehicle permit, if your emissions have not been recorded by the DVLA then you will not be eligible for any discount. Your v5c will show the emissions of your vehicle. Or you can go to GOV.UK - vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk

What happens after I have completed the online application form?

Once you have submitted the online application, you will receive two emails, one to say that we have received your application and one saying whether your payment has been successful. Your application and proofs will then be assessed by an officer within 5 working days and, if found to be sufficient, your full permit will be issued and a further email containing your permit number sent to you confirming this.

If you apply for a new 12 month permit that is eligible for a temporary permit option then our system will attempt to process this automatically for you. If this is successful you will receive a confirmation email containing your permit number within 5 minutes of submitting your application, and you will be able to use this temporary virtual permit immediately. If the system is unable to process your application automatically you will receive an email informing you that you will need to wait for an officer to assess your application.

If you didn’t have all the required document proofs to upload as part of the online application, you must send these to us within 30 days.

If you do not supply the required proofs within 30 days, your permit will be cancelled and you will not get a refund.
