Hate crime policy - 9, Training and support for officers

Officers responsible for preventing, identifying, and responding to hate incidents and hate crime will receive training to ensure they fulfil their role effectively. This training will equip them with cultural sensitivity, a robust understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion, and the ability to apply these principles in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. Our commitment is to ensure that all residents have fair access to services, with their individual needs recognised and met.

We will provide a robust induction programme for new employees working within the council and ongoing training to current officers to continue to develop and support our employees. All officers dealing with hate incidents and hate crime will receive regular supervision and support from our management team to ensure that the commitments in this policy are met. We will also work with businesses and the community groups to provide training on hate incidents and hate crimes and how they can provide support.
