Hate crime policy - 12, Equality and diversity

We will not discriminate, harass or victimise any person in the delivery of this policy and we shall comply with the provisions of the Public Sector Equality Duty. This policy will be applied to all residents regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partner status, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex, sexual orientation and care experience.

We invite all residents who report hate incidents or hate crimes to share monitoring information about their protected characteristics. By gathering this information, we aim to better understand how hate crimes and incidents affect different groups with protected characteristics, ensuring we can take effective action to address inequalities and enhance residents' experiences. We want everyone to feel comfortable, so residents will always have the choice not to disclose any details about their protected characteristics. All information provided will be carefully anonymised, ensuring complete privacy for victims, witnesses, and others involved.

We will review trends in hate crime by protected characteristic and use this to inform our work to prevent and challenge the behaviours and attitudes that can underlie such crimes, in line with our H&F Hate Crime Strategy.

In developing this policy, we have carried out an equality impact assessment to inform our approach and check that we are compliant with the Equality Act 2010 and our Public Sector Equality Duty.

This policy will be available on our council website. We will provide a copy of this policy in large print, in another language, in an easy read format, Braille or on audio tape, on request.

The policy will be reviewed and updated annually.
