Winter Ready Homes Scheme

Through the Winter Ready Homes Scheme, you can get a small grant to cover the cost of measures that will make your home more energy efficient, help you stay warm and save money this winter.

The measures included in the scheme are designed to be easy to install and renter friendly, and will provide you with immediate benefits. 

The closing date for applications was 31 March 2024.

Who can apply?

You may be eligible for the scheme if you are part of one (or more) of the following groups:

  • currently receiving means-tested benefits
  • living on a low income
  • over 65
  • Disabled or have a long-term health condition
  • living with children under the age of 5.

What can I get?

You can get different measures from the scheme depending on your home.

Draught excluders and foam draught proofing

These block gaps near your doors and windows and could save you up to £50 a year on energy bills.

Radiator foil

This goes behind your radiator to reflect more heat into your room, so you can turn down your central heating and save money. 

LED lightbulbs

These last up to ten times longer than traditional lightbulbs and use up to 75% less energy.

Hot water tank jacket and pipe insulation

These go around your hot water tank and pipes to prevent heat loss. It could save you around £50 a year on your energy bills.

Letterbox flaps

This plugs the gap in your letterbox and stops cold air from getting into your home.

Acrylic secondary glazing

This adds a clear plastic layer to your windows and helps prevent heat loss. The average home loses 18% of its heat through its windows.

Chimney draught excluder

This device blocks warm air escaping through the chimney, it could save the average household up to £90 a year on their energy bills.
