Wood Lane is getting a major upgrade to make cycling safer and easier in White City.
Works have started to create a new protected two-way cycle lane along Wood Lane between the A40 Westway and South Africa Road.
The 15-week project will extend Transport for London's Cycleway 34 – which currently connects Ealing with White City via the A40 Westway.
Once complete, it will form part of a continuous route linking cyclists all the way to Shepherds Bush Green – creating a missing connection that will help families and commuters travel safely between the north and south of the borough.
Cllr Florian Chevoppe-Verdier, H&F Cabinet Member for Public Realm, said:
We're working closely with Transport for London to ensure these changes truly benefit local people.
Protected cycle lanes are a key part of our vision to make H&F the healthiest, greenest and most connected borough in London. They help reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and support active travel, boosting physical and mental wellbeing for everyone.
It's all part of our commitment to making H&F the best place to live, work and visit.
What's happening?
The works include:
- A new fully protected two-way cycle lane along the western side of Wood Lane with a crossing point for bus access
- Removal of the central reservation on Wood Lane between South Africa Road and the A40 Westway
- Repaved footways and carriageway along this section of Wood Lane
- New street furniture including cycle parking, improved lighting and a new bus shelter
This work is just one of the ways we're cleaning our air and helping local people get around the borough more safely.
Motorists
Two-way traffic flow along Wood Lane is being maintained throughout the works, with only temporary single lane closures. Pedestrian access is also being maintained via alternative walkways at all times.

Bus stop changes
Bus stops M (southbound) and N (northbound) on Wood Lane are temporarily suspended during certain phases of the works. These stops serve routes 72, 95, 220, 283, 272 and N72.
Alternative stops and clearly signed diversion information are in place.
Building the cycling network
This phase builds on the recently completed works at Shepherds Bush Green and at the South Africa Road junction with Wood Lane.
Future phases will connect the cycle lane to Shepherds Bush Green. This will link people to jobs, education and transport hubs throughout H&F – including the millions of people who visit Westfield shopping centre and our White City Innovation District every year.
