White City now offers safer travel for local workers, residents and visitors following significant improvements to Wood Lane.
The junction with South Africa Road boasts new traffic lights and crossings for the millions of people who visit the White City Innovation District every year.
The area now better connects commuters between White City tube station and surrounding destinations including Imperial College London, Westfield shopping centre, QPR Football Club and our £150m EdCity development.
The improvements were delivered at no cost to local taxpayers and fully funded by Imperial College London as part of the White City Campus development works.
They're key partners of our economic growth plan, Upstream London. Cllr Florian Chevoppe-Verdier, H&F Cabinet Member for Public Realm, said:
These much-needed improvements to the heart of White City make it much easier and safer for people to get around. We've worked with our partners to ensure these changes benefit local people – and are delivered at no cost to taxpayers."

Direct route
The work included:
- New traffic lights at the crossing points at Wood Lane, South Africa Road and Depot Road
- Eleven new street lighting columns
- Two new CCTV cameras
- Better integration of the bi-directional cycle route through the junction along Wood Lane
- Resurfaced footways and carriageways
- Improved drainage to prevent surface water flooding
- New greening and low-level planting.
The work has also created a better protected cycle route along Wood Lane. It builds on the works to create new cycle links and crossing points at Shepherds Bush Green.
Once complete, it will create a safe, direct route from Shepherds Bush tube station through to White City and into west London.
