Why buy expensive tools you'll rarely use when money is tight?

Residents have saved £170,000 this year by borrowing from our Library of Things in Hammersmith instead of buying new.

With more than 1,180 items borrowed for as little as £1.50, residents are cutting costs and household clutter in one go.

It brings the lifetime savings to more than £900,000 since we launched the service in 2022 – supporting families through the cost-of-living crisis while preventing waste and carbon emissions. Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Ecology, said:

This is a win for people and the planet. We're helping residents save on costs while protecting the environment, which is all the more important if household budgets – or storage – are tight."

Over the last three years, H&F borrowers have also contributed to a total of 217.9 tonnes of green savings. This includes 44 tonnes of waste prevented, 130 tonnes of carbon emissions cut and 44 tonnes of electricals reused.

New kerbside recycling service

We know that some items are simply beyond repair, even with the high-quality repair tools from our Library of Things.

In those cases, our popular new kerbside recycling service can help.

It means that residents can now recycle broken or unwanted electrical items quicker and easier than ever before. Just place them next to your bins on collection day.
