Blood donors in H&F are being urged to fill appointment gaps over the Easter period.

NHS stocks usually dip around public holidays when people are on holiday. The local donor centre is on the first floor of Westfield shopping centre in White City, between The Village and Marks & Spencer.

There is an urgent need for donors with O negative blood type, used for patients receiving emergency transfusions, although all types remain in demand.

Donated blood is used to treat patients with cancer, blood disorders and those suffering medical trauma or undergoing surgery. Each donation can save or improve up to three lives.

Across London in the next fortnight there are 4,225 spare donor slots, with the White City mall having 914 available appointments.

Mark Chambers of NHS Blood and Transplant said: “As we enter the Easter and Spring bank holiday period, it’s vital that we continue to collect enough blood to meet hospital demand. Every appointment counts.”

Register and book an appointment at the Give Blood website, via the NHS Give Blood app or by calling 0300 123 23 23.
