Thames Water roadworks on North End Road to remove a large concrete-berg from the sewer pipes

Thames Water's closure of a small section of North End Road continues to 21 March, caused by the need to remove concrete that has been illegally poured into the sewer.

The company has excavated the Fulham site, between Sedlescombe Road and Lillie Road, in order to access the large "concrete-berg", which was dumped down their sewer pipes.

This week, contractors have been removing the damaged, collapsed sewer pipework from the ground.

Thames Water started working on Friday 16 February and hope to be finished by Thursday 21 March. To minimise disruption, they will be working extended hours seven days a week:

  • Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm
  • Saturday, 8am to 5pm and
  • Sunday, 10am to 4pm.

“We are working to find those that have caused this disruption to local residents and businesses,” said Jamie Keech, area network manager at Thames Water. “We’d like our customers to know we will work as fast as we can with our contractors and the local authority to re-open the road again as safely and quickly as possible.”

Traffic is being diverted via Dawes Road, Munster Road and Lillie Road.

Business as usual

North End Road’s historic market will remain open for business as usual during the repairs. The market runs six days a week, Monday to Saturday, from 8am to 6pm.
