Food Hygiene Rating Scheme

Food hygiene rating. Eating out? Getting food in? Check food.gov.uk/ratings

What is the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme?

The scheme provides information about hygiene standards for food businesses. We run the scheme in partnership with the Food Standards Agency (FSA). This is the central government department with responsibility for food safety.

Why is the scheme important?

It helps consumers decide where to eat and buy their food. It also recognises those businesses with the highest standards and encourages others to improve. The overall aim is to reduce the number of cases of food poisoning which currently affects about one million people in the UK every year.

Where can I get further information?

To find the latest information on the scheme please visit the FSA website.

How can a business get a better rating?

Request a re-visit

If the business has made improvements to the matters identified during the inspection they can request a re-visit.

The cost of a re-visit is £286.60 and can be paid by:

  • cheque, payable to London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (sent with the application form)
  • credit or debit card (we will contact you to arrange payment).

Download and fill in the request for a re-visit form, available as a Word doc or PDF.
