Friday 7 May 2021: Young stars of H&F awarded for their leadership at gala evening

Dozens of inspiring young people from across Hammersmith & Fulham will be honoured in an awards ceremony next week.

H&F Council will host the Virtual Youth Achievement Awards 2021 on Tuesday (4 May) from 5.30pm to 7pm. The awards will be live-streamed from St Paul’s Church in Hammersmith.

The awards will honour many of the borough’s incredible young people for their invaluable contributions to the community recently – and especially for their selfless work during the pandemic.

Young nominees will also be recognised for their efforts in the fields of volunteering, creativity and environmental change during the awards, as well as those who have excelled in technological or entrepreneurial innovation.

H&F Council Leader Stephen Cowan said: “The Youth Achievement Awards recognise some incredible local young people for believing in the impossible and for their outstanding contributions to the borough during the most challenging of years.

“The torch is always passed on the next generation and with it the job of making our society ever more perfect. Looking at the hard work, energy and idealism of these nominees, I’m confident that the future will be in good hands. Please join us in recognising their achievements and thanking them for their commitment to a better future.”

Awards

Organised by H&F’s Youth Council with the support of local businesses and organisations, the awards are a chance for peers, teachers, youth or social workers and practitioners to recognise the contribution made by young people aged 11-25.

Nominations closed earlier this month and the finalists will join the special virtual celebration event before the winners and runners-up are announced during the ceremony. Local arts groups and performers will also feature during the awards.

Hosted by H&F’s Youth Mayor Scarlett Knowles and Youth Councillor Marley Billing Delapenha, the awards will be opened by remarks from Cllr Cowan while young pianist Ayoor Wassagou will also perform for the audience.

Celebrating the diversity of achievement and talent of H&F’s youth, the awards also recognise young people who have made a significant contribution to others through their caring responsibilities, to their school, family or community organisation.

To mark the significant impact of the pandemic, one award will recognise a Covid-19 champion, who has done something outstanding to support others during lockdown.
