Friends and family have celebrated the "long and full life" of Fulham centenarian Lil Francis after she passed away at the age of 101.

The wartime bride – who worked in a factory supporting the Second World War effort after leaving school – was known for her strong work ethic and close family ties.

Grandson Jamie McFarlane said:

Lil was proud to have lived her whole life in Fulham, surrounded by family through to the end of her long and full life."

Born 11 April 1924, in Cassidy Road, Lil was the second youngest in a family of 10 siblings and had a lifetime of memories of Hammersmith & Fulham.

We shared stories of the hardworking great-grandmother in a feature celebrating Lil's centenary last year. Lil had marked the milestone day with friends and family, including six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Life in Fulham

Lil – who had lived at H&F Council's Cedar Lodge sheltered housing scheme in Eternit Walk for the past 20 years – married husband George in 1943.

From living in Fulham's Cassidy Road as a child, Lil never moved far.

Once married, Lil and George went on to have three children and moved to Sulivan Court before making a hop into Clem Attlee Court off Lillie Road, living in Stafford Cripps House.

Never a stranger to hard work, Lil spent 13 years working as a photographer at Kodak in Rylston Road, taking pictures for maps and documents.

Even after retiring, Lil was unstoppable and continued to take on cleaning work until the age of 80.

Beloved by her family, Jamie explained: "Nan passed away on 23 August, peacefully in the morning. It was a lovely bright few days, definitely the kind of weather to reward a long and full life."

Family and friends joined to commemorate Lil's life at her funeral on 30 September at Putney Vale Cemetery and Crematorium.

"We did all get to share a bright and sunny day together," added Jamie.

Once again nan was lucky with the weather, and I'm sure it would have made her smile."
