A bold and dramatic musical masterpiece will showcase local singing talent as Fulham Camerata performs Haydn's work The Creation.

The 18th century Austrian composer's uplifting orchestral work is set to deliver a musical spectacle at Fulham Camerata's autumn concert.

The 55-strong choir's voices will reverberate through All Saints Fulham, in Putney Bridge Approach, Bishops Park from 6.30pm on Saturday 15 November.

Created between 1796 and 1798, The Creation is considered to be Joseph Haydn's most inspiring and masterful work.

Fulham Camerata's Geraldine Cooper explains: "The work is based on Milton's novel Paradise Lost and the Book of Genesis. Haydn was inspired to write this oratorio during his time in London in the 1790s. Just before he left England for the last time, he was handed an anonymous English libretto on the subject of The Creation and he immediately saw the musical potential in the text.

"The oratorio reflects Haydn's own faith and in composing it he felt he was performing an act of religious devotion. The Creation is a vivid and joyful oratorio depicting the story of the world's beginning through powerful choruses, radiant solo arias, and richly expressive orchestration. This performance promises to be a moving and memorable evening."

The three-part orchestral work illuminates the six days of creation and the first morning in Eden, with Adam and Eve's praise for creation and their mutual love.

Directed by Harry Guthrie, the musical showcase will feature piano accompanist Gregory May alongside the singers.

The local choral group – which is keen to welcome new singers of all backgrounds, ages and abilities to its Tuesday evening rehearsals at All Saints Fulham – is planning an array of concerts in the coming months.

A candlelight Christmas concert will take place on Saturday 13 December, with Fulham Camerata's spring performance in 2026 planned for Saturday 21 March and popular summer concert on Saturday 27 June.
