H&F honours Polish pilots who defended Britain 85 years ago

Remembering the brave men who fought alongside the Royal Air Force in the Second World War

H&F has honoured the Polish pilots who defended Britain 85 years ago.

The commemoration ceremony was held at the Polish Air Force Memorial in South Ruislip on Saturday 30 August.

H&F Mayor Cllr Sharon Holder laid a wreath to remember the brave men who fought alongside the Royal Air Force in World War Two. She said:

I'm proud to show that H&F will continue to honour those who lost their lives to protect and serve our country. Standing alongside veterans and their families today shows our commitment to keeping their brave defeat of the Nazis alive for future generations."

100-year-old Marian Słomka laid the final wreath. He is believed to be the last surviving member of the Polish Air Force in the UK.

She joined descendants of the Polish squadrons, members of the Royal Air Force and the Polish Air Force Memorial Committee.
