In a world where book sales are moving more and more online, Nomad Books stands out.
This Fulham Road institution has been a part of the furniture for over three decades, an independent treasure that continues to be cherished by generations of Fulham Locals.
Now, as part of their 35th birthday celebrations, owner Harriot Morton and the team at Nomad Books are running a competition to help H&F bibliophiles bulk out their winter reading list.
Everyman's Nomad
Nomad Books pride themselves on offering a curated selection of books for everyone. Staff recommendations come from real people with real knowledge who are keen to help you make the right decision.
That's their MO and is one of the many reasons why they are a local favourite down in SW6.
Nomad owner Harriet Morton told us:
We have always evolved with the changing needs of the Fulham community. We love our customers and they in turn appreciate having a bookshop on their doorstep. We have seen children grow up and have their own families coming to us for their books."
Alongside their 'something-for-everybody' catalogue, Nomad Books also regularly plays host to a range of events, including a welcoming monthly book club, which takes place on the first Monday of every month.
"Talking about books can be so rewarding," she continued.
"We choose the books that we think they will enjoy, and we appreciate their suggestions too. It is a great pleasure to exchange thoughts and recommendations with the customers."
A changing consumer landscape has pushed more and more readers away from local independent bookstores. Supporting your local independent bookstore is a great way to make sure icons like Nomad Books can continue to play such a big role in their communities.
Birthday celebrations – Be in to win
As part of their 35th birthday celebration, Nomad Books will be putting on a window display featuring their favourite books from the past three and a half decades.
Every customer who buys a book instore on Saturday 18 October will go in the draw to win five books of their choice from the coveted window display.
If you're not sure what to get, the staff at Nomad will be on hand to help you find the perfect pick for you. But in the meantime, we asked Harriet for some of her favourite picks for fiction, nonfiction, young and old.
