Cllr Wesley Harcourt, our Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Ecology, said:

Hammersmith & Fulham is already home to world-leading companies that develop breakthrough innovation in climate and green tech. We want to tap into that incredible potential and give local people the chance to be part of the solution to the world's biggest problems and help make H&F stronger, safer and kinder."

Our Upstream London strategy has already attracted more than £1billion in green and climate tech investment since 2017, proving that our borough is the place where environmental innovation thrives and scales.

How to get involved

"Think of it almost as a school," explained Gosbert Chagula from Start-Up Discovery School.

"For four weeks, you'll get access to 1-to-1 mentoring from experts, training, access to new networks and crucially, access to funding. We really want to ensure this programme is truly representative of everything that Hammersmith & Fulham has to offer."

Watch the video on YouTube:

Open to businesses of all sizes – from sole traders and market stalls to large corporates – as well as community groups based in the borough, the programme runs from September to October with four key opportunities:

  • Expert workshops and coaching – Three intensive September sessions plus one-to-one support to develop your idea.
  • £3,000 funding prize – Pitch your solution to expert judges in October for the chance to win cash and in-kind support.
  • Access to our innovation network – Connect with the White City ecosystem and local green economy leaders.
  • Pitch showcase event – Present your developed idea to the public, council members, and potential investors and collaborators.

We're particularly keen to hear from first-time innovators and underrepresented groups with lived experience of environmental challenges.

Home to green innovation

Our pilot programme taps into the green tech innovation already emerging from our White City Innovation District. One standout example is our unique 'Better Air, Better Health' partnership with Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, which tackles air pollution as the serious health issue it is – with up to 83 early deaths in our borough attributed to dirty air each year.

Together, we're working to clean our air and protect residents' health.

H&F Green Innovators is delivered in partnership with Upstream NEXUS and Undaunted, Imperial's world-leading climate tech accelerator. "We believe that local innovation is the key to sustainable change, and this initiative offers a powerful platform for collaboration, creativity, and climate action," said Hannah Lord from Upstream Nexus London.

And Alyssa Gilbert, Director of Undaunted and Director of Innovation at Imperial's Grantham Institute, said: "What excites me most is the opportunity to work directly with people who live and work in the borough. They know the local area best and are perfectly positioned to deliver genuine, lasting impact."
