New postmaster Ajinder Kapoor said: “I appreciate all the support I’ve had from H&F to make this possible.

“We look forward to providing a seven-day-a-week full service to the community, including personal and business banking, Parcelforce and DPD, paying bills and top-ups, foreign currency and home newspaper delivery."

Cllr Ben Coleman, Deputy Leader of H&F, said: “I know what a blow losing the former post office in the Co-op was for local people. It’s been great to work with Ajinder on bringing in this new one just across the road. The extended opening hours are really helpful."

The post office will also contain a convenience store open till 11pm. It aims to open in mid-June – watch this space.

In a further boost for North End Road, Lidl has said it will be opening a new store where the Co-op used to be later this year.
