The leafy addition means H&F now has the most Tiny Forests in London. “These Tiny Forests are a fantastic thing,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Ecology, who joined in the planting.
“The forest is fantastic for the climate, it improves the look of the park and it increases biodiversity enormously. It’s all part of our process of greening Hammersmith & Fulham.”
In total, around 600 native saplings were planted by more than 50 volunteers – all in a space the size of a tennis court. Sapling species included Oak, Rowan, Beech, Whitebeam, Hornneam, Holly, Gorse and Broom.
Within its first three years the planting will attract more than 500 different plants and animals to the park. The forest was funded by the Local Authority Treescapes Fund, WFH Foundation and Rethink Mental Illness.
Frank Banfield’s blossoming new look
The new Tiny forest is just part of our efforts to improve Frank Banfield Park. Work is currently underway to build a new community garden, complete with wildflower meadow, pond, habitat wall, raised planters and a communal space made out of two shipping containers.
The Hammersmith park’s new look was designed in partnership with the Friends of Frank Banfield Park and Hammersmith Community Garden Association, and funded through money we’ve received after tough negotiations with local property developers.

H&F’s growing Tiny Forests
The borough’s first Tiny Forest – planted in Hammersmith Park in White City – was also the first one to be planted in London.
H&F’s second Tiny Forest, funded by a generous donation from a local resident, was planted in Normand Park in March 2022. And our third Tiny Forest, planted in Eelbrook Common in December 2022, was funded by a local business celebrating their 125th anniversary.

A green future
As part of our work to green H&F we’ve launched a low-risk investment offer – H&F Green Investment.
The scheme currently offers a fixed annual interest rate of 4.6% and the chance to support local green projects, such as solar panels, LED lighting and air source heat pumps.
It follows the success of the initial phase raising £1million, thanks to the support of local residents and businesses.
Residents can invest until 27 May 2024, or until the raise target of £1m has been reached. Find out more about the scheme.
