Choral voices and orchestral instruments will join for a musical showcase as the Addison Singers perform Haydn’s The Creation on Saturday 2 December.

Around 100 singers from the Hammersmith & Fulham-based Addison Singers choir are set to take to the stage with the 18th century classical masterpiece during the concert.

Soloists including soprano, alto, tenor and bass singers will perform as part of the epic event starting at 7.30pm at St Peter’s Church in Acton Green.

They will be joined by musicians from London’s Brandenburg Sinfonia orchestra, adding string instruments, a woodwind and brass section, and percussion to the performance.

Regarded as one of Austrian composer Joseph Haydn’s finest works, The Creation explores the biblical days of the earth’s origin.

The local singing society’s oratorio choir – which rehearse each week at the Polish Social and Cultural Association (POSK) centre in King Street, Hammersmith – will be led by Royal Academy of Music-trained conductor Matthew Thomas Morgan.

“Haydn’s The Creation is a whirlwind musical tour of the narrative contained in the opening texts of The Bible,” Matthew says.

“We are delighted to see the return of the Brandenburg Sinfonia to accompany the choir and soloists and we look forward to presenting the work.

“We are in for an evening of musical treats. There will be arresting orchestral overtures and interludes, solo arias which capture both the epic, and more humorous elements of the texts and resounding, uplifting choruses, which crown this masterpiece of the choral repertoire.”

The two-hour concert will include an interval, during which refreshments will be available.

Local music fans can get involved with the Addison Singers choirs – which launched in 1971 – each Wednesday evening, with rehearsals for its auditioned chamber choir taking place from 6.30pm to 7.45pm and the non-auditioned oratorio choir from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
