Following the spread of the new Omicron Covid variant, new rules came into force this week which require everyone to now wear a mask in shops and on public transport, unless medically exempt.
Transport for London (TfL) fined 152 people on the first day of the regulations – a penalty which can cost up to £200. Police can impose the same amount for failing to wear a face covering in stores.
In H&F our Law Enforcement Team of 72 officers is backing up the drive to resist the pandemic and security staff at many of our shopping centres and transport hubs are supporting the effort by handing out masks and asking customers to respect the law.
