Live music and food

The action-packed sport sees teams of four horses – the ultra fit polo ponies – and their riders compete to score goals using a long-handled mallet and ball on a grass pitch.

Teams from London, New York, Dubai, Zurich, Buenos Aires and Riyadh are pitted against each other in this year’s polo extravaganza.

Proceeds from the event financially supports local children’s charity, Sands End Associated Projects in Action (SEAPIA), in providing low-cost play and childcare for children and young people aged four to 13.

Children can get in on the fun during a dedicated family day on the Sunday, with a pitch invasion transforming the polo field into a huge play zone.

Expect games including a space hopper steeplechase, capture the flag, tug of war, and a strawberry bootlace race, while Minninnooka Polo Club will teach youngsters how to play polo.

Local sports clubs Chelsea Football Club and Hammersmith & Fulham Rugby Club will run sessions for children to hone their skills or learn something new. And the Little Hooves Kids Club will also be open all day, hosting storytelling, bouncy castles, face-painting and soft play.

Meanwhile, a food festival features street food including New Orleans and Mexican bites, alongside speciality pizza, hot dogs, burgers, doughnuts, poke and seafood.

Live music, bars and shopping will bring the summer vibe to the event, with polo games running from around 2pm each day.

Hurlingham Park is the home of polo

Hurlingham Park is where the ‘modern day’ rules of polo were written in 1875. Later, it hosted two Olympic Games for polo – including the 1908 Olympic Polo Final when England won the gold medal.

In its heyday of the 1920s, Hurlingham Park was the home field for the Maharajas of India to play polo during the European summer and it was the local tournaments that first introduced polo to the USA.

The Friends of Hurlingham Park help H&F and its contractors maintain the green space. Find out more about your local park Friends group.
