It’s showtime in Hammersmith & Fulham after the borough won the ‘Cultural Impact’ prize at the prestigious London Borough of Culture awards.
The £200,000 award from the Mayor of London’s office will be used to kickstart a new 10-year arts programme to develop the next generation of stars from our talented pool of local young musicians. But that’s not all, it will also provide more opportunities for all residents, regardless of their background, to get involved in the arts.
The ‘Sounds like Hammersmith & Fulham’ programme will build on the borough’s already booming arts and culture scene thanks to the success of our Arts Strategy (pdf 627KB) and Industrial Strategy (pdf 2.6MB) as H&F fast becomes the best place to live, work and play in Europe.
“We’d like to thank the Mayor of London for the coveted award which will help us transform the borough into a thriving launchpad for future music stars,” said Cllr Andrew Jones, H&F Cabinet Member for the Economy and the Arts.
“We want to make H&F an international beacon for the arts which not only our aspiring local young talent can benefit from, but a place all our residents regardless of their background can enjoy and participate in.”
The exciting new 10-year programme will also offer all young people in H&F the chance to get involved in the arts and help reduce knife crime and youth violence in the borough.
Arts Commission
Our ‘Sounds of Hammersmith & Fulham’ programme forms part of the work we’re doing with local residents, artists and organisations to make H&F one of the leading arts destinations in the country.
Other projects include a new community-led arts commission, which is looking at ways to further boost the borough’s already thriving arts scene for all residents, especially the ones with little or no access to the arts.
The independent Arts Commission, which is made up of residents, volunteers, art experts and local arts organisations, will produce a set of recommendations in summer 2020.

H&F Council received the award from the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, with Haringey and Sutton also receiving the £200,000 award to deliver their individual cultural projects.
