Aspiring tennis stars got a boost this week when the sport’s most famous mum dropped into H&F for a day of coaching, organised by The Queen’s Club Foundation.
Judy Murray visited The Queen’s Club in West Kensington on Tuesday (26 September) where she ran a special session to train coaches with fun games to play to bring out the best in young players.
As part of the day, youngsters from St Stephen’s Primary School in Uxbridge Road, Shepherds Bush, got the chance to take part in a training session delivered by the coaches – with Judy’s help.
“It’s great that local schoolchildren got the opportunity to be coached under the guidance of a British tennis legend,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.
Judy’s day of coaching follows on from of a summer of activities H&F Council has hosted alongside The Queen’s Club and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) as part of a drive to increase participation in the sport.
H&F Council is determined to help children lead healthier, more active lifestyles and sports like tennis are great in allowing children to have fun, while keeping active.
As part of the campaign, the courts in Normand Park, Fulham, have been refurbished, with those in Ravenscourt Park also in line for a revamp. The renovations will mean children and adults from all over the borough will now have access to high quality playing facilities.
“So these improved courts are a real boost to the fantastic leisure facilities on offer in the borough,” added Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.

With the help of her assistant Kris Soutar, Judy took a training session specifically for coaches as part of her inspirational Tennis on the Road campaign. As part of her coaching she has travelled across Scotland before coming to inspire coaches and kids in H&F.
The event was organised by the Queen’s Club Foundation, which aims to benefit the lives of local young people through by widening participation in lawn tennis and other racket sports.
