In a letter to the children and young people of the borough, Yvette Stanley, Ofsted’s National Director Regulation and Social Care, said: “The senior leaders and the politicians who run the council really care about you and they work well together to make Hammersmith & Fulham a great place to live.”
Our dedicated, hardworking children’s teams support the borough’s young carers, residents in foster care and their foster carers, cared for children and care experienced young people, unaccompanied minors, and families with children who need extra support at home and with their day-to-day routines.
Cllr Alex Sanderson, H&F Cabinet Member for Children and Education, commented on its vital work:
Hammersmith & Fulham is a borough for everyone and at our heart is a mission to improve and change the lives of our youngest residents. Giving them the very best start in life so that they can thrive, enjoy life and help us build a better future. Ofsted has confirmed that we are doing just that.”
Glenna, a foster carer who supports unaccompanied minors and asylum seekers in H&F, added: “Having an Outstanding rating validates the work that’s been done and the work that will carry on being done.”
Raising standards
The recognition comes after Ofsted inspected the service in March. The new rating is an improvement on our previous ‘Good’ result.
The report found that: “Children living in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham receive excellent services. Since the last inspection, highly effective and committed leaders have continued to make improvements.”
The department works for the safety, wellbeing and future of children before they’re born, through to the age of 25.
The Ofsted inspectors assessed our Children’s Services on its overall effectiveness, the experience and progress of care leavers, children in care and children who need help and protection, and the impact of leaders on social work practice.
