Residents in Hammersmith & Fulham are being encouraged to sign up to a scheme that could save them money on their gas and electricity bills.
H&F Council has once again joined with several other London boroughs to deliver the Big London Energy Switch. The scheme helps residents to club together to secure lower energy prices by using a third party to switch provider.
By grouping together those taking part secure greater bargaining power – resulting in energy companies competing to offer their best prices. This means the more people who register for The Big London Energy Switch, the lower the price that could be offered.
“Residents often tell us they struggle with rising energy bills and The Big London Energy Switch could help reduce that stress,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.
“That’s why we are committed to doing all we can to help our residents save money, particularly as we approach the colder winter months.”
Since H&F joined the scheme, residents switching provider through the BLES have saved a total in excess of £67,000.
Who can take part?
Anyone who pays a household energy bill can take part. This includes tenants and people who have pre-payment meters. However if you are more than £500 in debt to an energy supplier you are not allowed to switch their energy companies.
How the scheme works
The next energy auction will take place on 10 October 2016. Once registration has closed, all the energy companies are invited to offer their best prices to all those who have registered. The winning energy company simply offers the lowest price.
You will then be sent details of the lowest bidder’s offer and the potential savings you may make if you were to switch. You are under no obligation to accept the offer, but if you choose to do so you will also get help to switch over to the new tariff.
