The Bhavan recieves their award
A West Kensington charity which celebrates and teaches courses about Indian culture has scooped a vital cash boost thanks to its recycling endeavours.
The Bhavan, in Castletown Road, uses dance, yoga and music among its specialist courses to encourage further understanding of Indian culture and heritage and its place as an integral part of wider UK culture.
This month, the group was presented with a £2,500 prize after being picked out as winners in the fourth and final draw of Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s Golden Ticket competition, which encouraged people to recycle more and to recycle the correct things.
“Congratulations to The Bhavan for winning the final community group prize in this year’s Golden Ticket competition,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Council Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.
Through the Golden Ticket competition, H&F Council and three neighbouring boroughs have run four prize draws handing out cash to individuals and community groups which have submitted a ‘golden ticket’ with their recycling.
Those tickets have then been plucked at random from all those which were found during the sorting process at the recycling plant where the four boroughs' waste is processed.
Helen Thomas, Admin and Development Manager at The Bhavan, said "Recycling is really important so that we can all make the best use of available resources and minimise waste.
“We are delighted to win this award which we will use to buy some recycling bins and as match funding for a grant from Arts Council England for environmental improvements and upgrades to our centre."
