Big reductions in the council’s senior management have played a vital role in protecting frontline services for local residents.
That’s the clear message as Hammersmith & Fulham Council finalises details of next year’s budget – 2016-7 - with official figures showing the scale of reductions in senior management costs.
Hammersmith & Fulham Council Leader, Cllr Stephen Cowan, said: “We are demonstrating its commitment to finding innovative, radical ways of saving money and protecting services. We pledged to bring an end to unnecessary roles and inflated salaries at the Town Hall – and we are doing that.
“By axing six costly executive director and director posts, and making sensible reductions to other senior management roles, we have saved £600,000. At the same time we have asked councillors to play their part, and reduced allowances by 10 per cent, becoming the first administration to ever cut councillors’ pay.
“By delivering on these promises, we have been able to freeze council tax, invest in frontline services and continue to defend Charing Cross Hospital.
“This makes H&F the only London council to have cut council tax last year, and one of a handful to pledge a freeze for the next. This is despite central government suggestions to increase council tax by 2 per cent this year. ”
