H&F councillors and Transport for London (TfL) want to hear your views on plans to build a new London Overground station in Old Oak in a meeting starting at 7pm on Tuesday, 4 November at Hammersmith Town Hall.
“New train connections in the borough could bring fantastic advantages to the borough and we want to hear what local people think of the various options being proposed by TfL,” says Cllr Larry Culhane, who will chair the meeting.
“The plan is part of the wider regeneration plan for Old Oak, which could see a major new transport interchange with Crossrail and HS2 train lines and tens of thousands of jobs and homes created in one of the most deprived areas of the borough - and London.
“Transport links are an important part of this. If you have views on the new Overground station at Old Oak, this meeting is a great chance for them to be heard."
Hammersmith & Fulham Council supports the regeneration of Old Oak to create affordable homes and new employment opportunities for local families - however, it has made a formal objection to an unwelcome proposal that would give the Mayor of London planning powers for the whole of the Old Oak regeneration.
H&F believes that taking local planning powers away from Old Oak would be 'an anti-democratic land grab' that would allow the mayor to permit the building of properties for overseas speculators rather than homes Londoners can afford.
Current regeneration proposals feature vastly improved local rail connections as well as a link with Crossrail and HS2. While the council supports the new London Overground station, there is a concern about options that would use part of Wormwood Scrubs for an elevated track. As a result, the council prefers Option C below. The Wormwood Scrubs Charitable Trust has also given its backing to Option C.
The three options for a new London Overground station at Old Oak include:
Option A: London Overground's Clapham Junction to Stratford services diverted to run on a new viaduct. A new station would be built on London Overground's Richmond to Stratford route, adjacent to Old Oak Common Lane, with access to a proposed HS2 station (to the east) and Victoria Road (to the west).
Option B: London Overground services would be diverted to run on existing freight lines into a new station on the London Overground Richmond to Stratford route, with access to the proposed HS2 station (to the east) and Victoria Road (to the west).
Option C: This option would involve the creation of two new stations. A new station would be built on London Overground's Richmond to Stratford route, next to Old Oak Common Lane with a second station on London Overground's Clapham Junction to Stratford route, next to Hythe Rd.
