  • Summer Reading Challenge 2021 Events

    The Summer Reading Challenge, presented by The Reading Agency, is delivered in partnership with public libraries and funded by Arts Council England. The Challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to enjoy the benefits of reading for pleasure over the summer holidays, providing lots of fun as well as helping to prevent the summer reading ‘dip’.

    This year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme is Wild World Heroes, created in partnership with WWF and illustrated by award-winning children’s author and illustrator Heath McKenzie. Find out more: Summer Reading Challenge

    In conjunction with the challenge, H&F Libraries will be running a variety of free events over the summer holidays. Most events are bookable via Eventbrite. Please see below for more details.

    John Kirk’s We’re Going on a Rainforest Storyhunt! + We’re Going on an Ocean Storyhunt!

    Available to watch from 26 July and throughout the summer via H&F Libraries’ social media. Suitable for ages 3+

    This summer join storyteller John Kirk on a story hunt through the jungle to explore the wonders of life in the rainforest and a story hunt to the bottom of the ocean to discover life under the sea.  Let your imagination run wild as you join a virtual storytelling experience like no other.  These pre-recorded sessions are jammed packed with interactive scavenger hunting fun!

    A Wild Woodland Adventure: online storytelling session for 4-7 years

    Calling all explorers! Join Cat & Hutch for this wild, woodland adventure! Cat & Hutch journey into the forest to find all the wildlife from 'Look What I Found in the Woods' by Moira Butterfield. However, soon into their journey they meet a lost butterfly trying to find her way home, so they go on a mission to help her. But it's not as easy as they first think - her home isn't on the map! With the help of a few woodland creatures, will they be able to help Butterfly find her way home? 

    An interactive devised show inspired by 'Look What I Found in the Woods' by Moira Butterfield  and 'King of the Swamp' by Catherine Emmett and Ben Mantle.

    GeoBus is a free outreach resource available across the UK offering exciting Earth Science workshops. This careers session is aimed at key stage 2 students and will give them the opportunity to discover what Earth science is and the many diverse Earth Science careers from Palaeontology to Geology and even out into the Solar System!
