  • Black History Month

    Apartheid and Me: Children’s author event, for ages 5+

    Tuesday 26 October, 2pm at Hammersmith Library

    Wednesday 27 October, 2:30pm at Shepherds Bush library

    Join author and storyteller Monica Clarke as she reads from her children’s book 'Apartheid and Me'.

    Fully illustrated, Apartheid and Me is written for the learning of children up to age 10, to help them recognise inequality and discrimination no matter how these are disguised.

    Copies will be available to purchase after the session.

    About the Author

    Monica Clarke was born in Cape Town, South Africa and moved to Europe as a political refugee from Apartheid. She now lives in London.

    When Mr Mandela Came to Town: Children’s author event, for ages 7+

    Wednesday 27 October: 2pm at Fulham Library

    When Mr Mandela Came to Town is the debut children’s book by Kemi Bamgbose.

    As a child, Kemi took the day off school to see the newly elected President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, on his historic trip to Brixton, following 27 years imprisonment for campaigning against Apartheid Rule, joining with thousands of others for this momentous occasion, in July 1996.

    Join Kemi as she explores the inspiration behind her book - which is a creative reimagining of that day reads a chapter or two and for a few creative activities for children to take part in!
