To drive forward the positive changes needed to make the Food Plan in H&F a reality, it must be constantly informed by the needs of residents and the community organisations that serve them. Therefore, this plan is structured around the following four key themes.
Underpinning each of these themes is the aim to reduce inequalities in H&F.
The four key themes
Healthy eating
Objective: Everyone can eat healthily
Everybody in Hammersmith & Fulham has access to healthy food with fresh food being accessible and affordable.
People can have diets that support their health and wellbeing. Mothers and babies are supported to have the best healthy start to life.
Connecting communities
Objective: No-one in the borough has to eat alone
Food works as a social connector, helping to reduce social isolation and loneliness.
Bringing communities together and supporting vulnerable residents reduces the divisions of inequality.
Food systems
Objective: Ensuring no-one goes hungry or is malnourished
Ensuring everybody in the borough can access food regardless of barriers, such as poverty or health issues.
We are committed to supporting children and young people so that no child is too hungry to learn.
Food securities
Objective: People can eat without damaging the environment
Working to reduce the environmental impact of food, including supporting residents to eat sustainable diets, reduce food waste and making use of surplus food.
We believe that fostering fair and sustainable food for all is a powerful way to tackle the environmental crisis and we are committeed to ensuring that this remains a core focus across all areas of our work.
