In any given year, mental health problems will affect 1 in 4 people.

Poor mental health can affect people at any point in their life including:

  • children
  • young people
  • new mothers
  • adults
  • older people.

Mental health also influences physical health, as well as a person’s capability to lead a healthy life. There is a broad range of factors that affect mental health including socio-economic determinants and environmental surroundings.

There are many things that can be done to improve mental health. This includes providing high-quality, accessible and responsive services to help diagnose as well as improve outcomes for people with a mental illness.

Effective prevention planning can also be used to promote good mental health.
