Special school nurses (SSNs) provide specialised nursing care to children and young people, aged 4 to 19 years old, with ongoing complex health needs.
They operate at:
- Jack Tizard School in Hammersmith and Fulham
- Queen Elizabeth 2 Jubilee School in Westminster
They help these students attend school and learn by providing specialised nursing care.
This includes:
- working with colleagues in education in supporting schools with enteral feeding, such as nasogastric, gastrostomy or jejunostomy feeding
- supporting with the administration of regular medication and in case of medical emergencies
- undertaking continence assessments, liaising with families' health and social care professionals
