Shifting London- Business Support for social or environmental impact project, social enterprise or charity 

A series of online and in-person events aimed at anyone in the early stages of setting up a social or environmental impact project, social enterprise or charity. Funded via UKSPF.    

The Shifting London Pre-festival sessions will be held online in September, with the Shifting London Festival on Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 September 2023 taking place in central London.  You can register to attend the Shifting London Festival here.

Virgin StartUp business support opportunity, Empower 100  

Virgin StartUp have launched a new programme designed for Black, Asian and minority ethnic founders, women founders and founders with a disability, who are based in Greater London. ⁠

Empower100 runs for 8 weeks and prepares businesses for growth, to attract talent, get investment-ready, refine your brand, and more. ⁠The next cohort kicks off on 5 October, so please submit an application before the deadline on 20 September.

Join 30,000 senior leaders taking part in a practical management training programme delivered by Brunel Business School, accredited by the Small Business Charter. The programme began in 2021 and has been impactful for small and medium sized enterprises ever since.

OPDC Loans for Small Businesses (Park Royal only)

Are you a small business or workspace provider in Park Royal? Do you want to develop new or improve existing affordable workspace, or have plans to expand your business? If so, then we want to hear from you!

Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC) is pleased to launch Loans for Small Businesses. We will be providing £350,000 of funding to support new and existing food manufacturing and creative businesses to expand their businesses, as well as supporting affordable workspace providers to expand their premises.

Applications for loan funding is available for capital uses for affordable workspace, up to a maximum of £150,000 including;

  • extensions to existing buildings that result in an uplift of affordable workspaces
  • mezzanines and internal building reconfigurations that result in an uplift of affordable workspaces
  • equipment and fit out costs associated with targeted business incubators
  • fit out costs
  • environmental improvements that result in an uplift in a building’s energy efficiency / EPC rating

Applications for loan funding, between £10,00 – £150,000, is available for capital uses to support micro-businesses and SMEs, including;

  • projects resulting in increased productivity and job growth
  • building works and refurbishment
  • purchase of equipment

Interest rates are linked to the Bank of England base rate, currently 5.25%

This report provides an overview of the services that public libraries provide, focusing on the Business and IP Centres (BIPC) delivery model with examples. It draws on a survey of heads of libraries in England about their services related to business development and finds that 98% of library services in survey offers specialist support to entrepreneurs, start-ups and SMEs.

The Start Up Loans Programme

The Start Up Loans programme is funded by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and is delivered by The Start Up Loans Company (SULCo), a subsidiary of the British Business Bank.

It aims to encourage entrepreneurship in the UK, increase the rate of business creation and improve survival prospects.

More specifically, the programme offers loans (from £500 to £25,000, at 6% interest) alongside free mentoring and support to individuals who are starting a new business or who have been trading for less than two years.

Time to Pay service

All businesses and self-employed people in financial distress, and with outstanding tax liabilities, may be eligible to receive support with their tax affairs through HMRC’s Time To Pay service.

These arrangements are agreed on a case-by-case basis and are tailored to individual circumstances and liabilities.

You are eligible if your business: 

  • pays tax to the UK government 
  • has outstanding tax liabilities.
