The Safer Cycle Pathway in Hammersmith is set to be upgraded and improved.
Working alongside Transport for London, we’re now set to make various improvements to the cycle route in King Street. We thank all the local residents and businesses who have shared their views and experiences with us since the route was unveiled in December 2021.
The Safer Cycle Pathway is a two-way segregated cycle path designed to significantly upgrade and improve facilities for cyclists and pedestrians in Hammersmith.
“We are listening to residents and making changes to improve the safety of the Safer Cycle Pathway,” said Cllr Sharon Holder, H&F Cabinet Member for Public Realm.
“It’s been hugely popular so far and we’ve seen a huge leap in the number of riders using it – especially families. We’re now looking at how we can further improve its junctions and make them safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.”
These improvements include:
- improving visibility for motorists and cyclists at the junctions of Weltje Road and Rivercourt Road junctions. We also want to reduce the speed of vehicles on these roads to reduce the chance of collisions
- working with TfL to upgrade the current pedestrian refuge outside the West London Free School into a zebra crossing. This will allow children to cross King Street more safely
- reviewing and looking to improve Disabled parking options in the area
- improving the arrangements for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians along all the junctions between Bridge Avenue to Goldhawk Road. Upgrades will include new surfaces and treatments, better signs and possibly changes to the kerbs
- improvements to how emergency vehicles can better access and use the narrow section of King Street by Lyric Square
- improving the options for loading/unloading for businesses and add more bays where needed in the local area.
The interim cycling route will become permanent on 22 March. Watch this space for more details about improvements and when they’ve been made.
