Hammersmith became the first town centre in the UK to have an IKEA showroom store after it opened on Thursday (24 February).

Hammersmith became the first town centre in the UK to have an IKEA showroom store after it opened on Thursday (24 February).

The store sits within the new-look Livat Hammersmith shopping mall, previously called King’s Mall, which also opened Thursday. Two years ago, the mall was purchased by IKEA’s parent company Ingka Centres for £170million and is steadily being refurbished.

Welcome to IKEA

The new IKEA showroom marks the first time IKEA’s home-furnishing accessories will be available to buy on UK high streets.

To celebrate the openings, a colourful parade, with steel drums, jugglers, and stilt walkers made their way through Hammersmith on Thursday.

And in-store events are being held over the weekend for all residents to enjoy.

On Saturday (26 February) visitors are invited to ‘Family Funanza’ to join magicians, superheroes, face painters and a wildlife expert in Livat as part of an action-packed day.

And on Sunday (27 February) a Community Theatre, event will celebrate the fascinating history of the Lyric Hammersmith theatre. Pop-up displays will include costumes and memorabilia from the landmark theatre in a unique gallery.

Until Saturday 5 March, residents will also be able to experience a little taste of Sweden. This includes a series of talks in partnership with IKEA on the Swedish concept of ‘Lagom’ and how to live a simpler lifestyle.

Cycle to shop

Why not visit Livat Hammersmith using our new bike route?

We’re building a new bike lane to improve conditions for cyclists on the Hammersmith Gyratory.

When completed, the new Safer Cycle Pathway will enable cyclists to travel eastwards and westwards on a segregated cycle track.

The junction of King Street and the Broadway will be finished in Spring 2022 and will enable cyclists to travel safely along King Street and through the Gyratory in both directions.

Investing in H&F

Kings Mall’s regeneration supports our economic strategy – Economic Growth for Everyone. It reflects our ambition to make H&F the best place to do business in Europe, and our belief that this should benefit all residents.

Livat Hammersmith is Ingka Centres’ first-ever urban meeting place, and the site has been converted into a lively ‘meeting place’ with a welcoming atrium.

The exciting new look and first of its kind IKEA store will attract shoppers from across London, bringing economic benefit to the whole of Hammersmith. Livat Hammersmith will also deliver almost 500 jobs. A third of these jobs will be new, including 121 as part of the new IKEA store, with 21 per cent of co-workers coming from H&F.

Combined with our redevelopment of Civic Campus, including building a new cinema and new genuinely affordable homes, King Street is leading the way in improvements and regeneration.
