A touch of America has arrived in White City as the first business moved into the newly renovated Wood Lane Arches.
Prairie Fire BBQ, a Kansas City style barbecue eatery, has taken over two of the 31 revamped arches underneath the Hammersmith & City and Circle lines next to Westfield London.
Thanks to Transport for London (TfL), more leisure and retail offerings will soon join the new restaurant across TfL’s series of arches in the borough’s hottest new destination.
It joins new music and arts venue Exhibition London and Elephant West in this booming area of White City, which is offering high-quality arts and entertainment options for everyone in H&F.
“We want to make H&F a go-to destination in London with many more arts facilities, live music venues, cinemas, theatres, restaurants, cafes, bars and shops,” said Cllr Andrew Jones, H&F Cabinet Member for the Economy and the Arts.
“The transformation of the Wood Lane arches will offer both big and small businesses the opportunity to benefit from the exciting new neighbourhood in White City. We want all residents and businesses to share in the prosperity of our booming borough.”
The transformation of Wood Lane Arches contributes to the council’s Industrial Strategy (pdf 2.6MB) to make H&F the best place to live, work and socialise in Europe.
BBQ is hot in W12
Prairie Fire BBQ was launched by Kansas City native Michael Gratz. One arch will be for the restaurant to serve up its authentic Kansas City BBQ meals, and the other housing a taproom with a rotating selection of London craft beers.
“We are excited that Prairie Fire BBQ is opening its first bricks and mortar site in our Wood Lane Arches. We are proud to support the company as it takes its next step as a small business, especially as it is the first to take advantage of our new transformed arches in Wood Lane,” added Director of Commercial Development at TfL, Graeme Craig.
More improvements
The renovation of Wood Lane Arches has brought further improvements for the local community with several arches also now open, giving pedestrians better access to Westfield and the local tube stations (Wood Lane and White City).
These arches beneath the Circle and Hammersmith & City tube lines – created in the 1860s – were previously inaccessible to the public.
Works are also underway by Berkeley St James to deliver 427 new genuinely affordable homes at White City Living, the former Marks & Spencer’s warehouse site situated on the other side of the railway arches opposite Westfield.
