Residents outside Hammersmith Town Hall as part of a call to recognise our climate emergency
There is a climate emergency.
In Hammersmith & Fulham we know we must take urgent action and become the greenest borough in the UK. We’re not interested in tinkering around the edges, we want to take radical and fundamental action to make sure we’re on the right side of this historic challenge.
Residents should feel they have a stake in their local community which is why our philosophy is that we should do things with residents, not to them.
That’s why we’re creating a resident-led Climate and Ecological Emergency Commission so that residents are empowered to help us tackle the climate emergency and make a difference in their own lives and the future for their families and neighbours.
If you want to help us develop the smart and innovative policies we need to rise to the challenge of tackling climate change and the threats we face here, and nationally, then please join our resident-led Climate and Ecological Emergency Commission.
“There is no doubt that we are facing a climate emergency and we have to respond to that by radically adapting the way we run council services.
"If you feel passionately about the need to take urgent action I’d encourage you to join our Climate Commission and put that passion into shaping Council policy”, said Cllr Stephen Cowan, Leader of the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham.
How to get involved
We’re looking for passionate and committed people to help us make this radical change.
We’re asking you to:
- help us develop our net 2030 zero carbon strategy, hear evidence and advise how the council, local partners and others can meet our target
- review and shape existing and new initiatives as they develop
- use your local knowledge to help identify the unique local conditions, assets and challenges that can help inform our strategy.

We’d like to hear about your passion for tackling climate change, your experiences and areas of expertise, and why you want to be on the commission.
Hammersmith & Fulham has already made huge strides towards becoming the greenest borough in Britain including:
- declaring a climate emergency with a target to be net carbon zero by 2030
- installing more electric charge points than any other borough to improve air quality
- ending the use of harmful glyphosate to promote biodiversity
- building safer cycle lanes to reduce traffic congestion and tackle air pollution
- making our streets cleaner and greener.
