Two new Hammersmith & Fulham parks have been awarded Green Flag status, boosting the borough’s tally of world-class green spaces to 13.

Newcomers Furnivall Gardens and Wormholt Park, join the ranks of green spaces in the borough which have been judged to meet Keep Britain Tidy’s strict criteria for the best parks in the country.

The Green Flag scheme, now in its 21st year, recognises parks with the highest standards of cleanliness, horticulture and facilities.

“We want to be the greenest borough in the country and key to that is protecting our parks for future generations of residents and visitors,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.

“This superb news is testament to the hard work of the staff who maintain the parks and the local residents and ‘friends of’ groups that we work closely with to preserve them.”

"We’re very proud that our wonderful green space has once again been recognised with a Green Flag," said Ruth Savery, Secretary of the Friends of Margravine Cemetery.

“The cemetery is a vital part of our community, providing space and calm in a busy part of London. Studies have shown that regular contact with trees appears to improve our immune system function and our wellbeing, and we know that thousands of people pass through the cemetery every day.

"We’re fortunate to have the support of H&F Council who understand the importance of the cemetery, and who provide two excellent gardeners to maintain it. We have many generous volunteers who help with additional gardening such as tree planting and maintenance, as well as organising activities for children and adults to enjoy."
