Youngsters on the Bayonne Estate in Fulham are using new, fun and exciting sports sessions to find out who’s the local ‘crossbar king’ and ‘street darts’ champion.
These are just a couple of the new games already helping children and young people in Hammersmith & Fulham develop new skills, while having fun and keeping active.
The free activity sessions are being delivered on the estate’s recently-refurbished play area, by specialist charity Playinnovation Foundation, with help from Playinnovation and H&F Council.
“We have currently engaged with 90 young people during our project on Bayonne estate and have introduced a wide range of exciting and new elements to a sports session using our innovative games,” said Robbie Payne-Inglis, of Playinnovation Foundation.
“All of our games help young people with numeracy, character building, team work, perseverance and improvement of skills using hand eye coordination and can be played individually or in groups.”
Proving popular
Playinnovation Foundation offers sessions in street pool, street darts, crossbar king, using tennis, cricket, hockey, handball, football and basketball. The group aims to expand to other sites across the borough.
Currently the sessions are delivered free at the Bayonne Estate ball court, every Monday evening from 5.30pm ‘til 7pm for five to 15-year-olds and from 7pm to 8.30pm for 16-19 year-olds.
Newcomers just need to complete a simple registration form to take part.
Robbie said the new sessions have proved so popular, even some parents have tried them out in the later sessions, while socialising with other parents and making new friends.
“Our head coach Rohan Duncan has done a magnificent job in delivering high-quality football and multi-skills activities,” added Robbie.
“It's fantastic to see so many young people keeping fit and active which has such a positive impact on the local community.”
