Residents on a Fulham estate have an exciting place to stay active after a dilapidated ball court was given a radical facelift by H&F Council.
The newly renovated sunken court on the Bayonne Estate was officially opened to residents on Saturday (12 September), where young people flocked to try out the new equipment.
“This is an outstanding turn-around from a bare patch of concrete to something that will benefit residents of all generations for years to come, helping them stay healthy and have fun,” said Cllr Vivienne Lukey, H&F Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, who cut the ribbon to officially open the court.
The revamped facility features a range of games and machines to allow children of all ages, and adults too, to get keep active and have fun.
The new facility was funded by an H&F capital grant and was designed and built by specialist company Play Innovation.
Children can now hone their skills playing street snooker, street darts and table tennis, using the basket swing, or exercising on gym equipment.
There is even a dedicated miniature football pitch, as well as various other games for the younger children too.
H&F consulted on plans for the facility with the help of the London Sports Trust, who had been running free after-schools sports activities on the court for local children.
The work was undertaken over four weeks.
The opening day included a football match, street snooker competition, face painting and arts and crafts.
A signed Chelsea FC shirt was also given away for the ‘player of the day’.
