H&F launches electric car club giving everyone access to greener transport

A ground-breaking new electric car hire scheme will be launched by H&F Council this month.

A ground-breaking, new electric car hire scheme will be launched by Hammersmith & Fulham’s administration this month, allowing residents to make greener journeys around and out of the borough.

As H&F Council strives to become the greenest borough in the country, the innovative new car club, which runs in a similar way to hiring a Santander cycle, will help in the fight to reduce dangerous air pollution.

H&F will be the first council in London to launch the car club, which will use the council’s existing network of 43 electric vehicle charging points in 14 locations across the borough.

“This new car club is another innovative way we are fighting to reduce pollution and make H&F the greenest borough in the country,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.

“We already have a growing network of charging points and aim to have expanded this to 100 by next Easter, including some rapid-charging points to make the experience quicker and easier.”

The Bluecity car club will use the Source London network of charge points already installed across H&F and will initially launch with five cars, which will expand to around 25 by Spring 2017.

Users will be able to reserve a vehicle 30-minutes in advance and can leave it in any charging bay in any of the 16 London boroughs who are signed up to Source London.

The existing car club scheme operating in H&F for non-electric vehicles will also soon by expanding.

This will help boost sustainable transport use by reducing car ownership and unnecessary car journeys in the borough.
