Important changes to motorcycle parking in Caxton Village

The council has implemented a motorcycle permit trial in the Caxton Village area. This went live on 1 September 2021. The changes include, charging for all motorcycle parking in the residential streets, a new free motorcycle parking bay on Uxbridge Road and a new resident’s permit for motorcycles at 50% discount.

Why have we introduced the changes?

Concerns have been raised by some residents of Caxton Village about excessive anti-social motorcycle parking activity. Some areas of the roads are also reportedly being used as a free motorcycle fleet storage facility for food delivery outlets and numerous reports of anti-social behaviour have been linked to independent motorcycle food delivery companies. A recent traffic survey carried out in the area also showed a significant number of motorcycle movements in the Caxton Village which has had a detrimental impact on residents’ lives by reducing parking capacity and increasing environmental concerns around noise and pollution.

What are we proposing?

The introduction of parking charges for all motorcycles:

  • A new resident parking permit for motorbikes, mopeds and scooters.
  • Pay & display charges apply to all vehicles

These will apply for all motorcycles between the hours of operation of the parking zone, 9am to 10pm daily.

We are also proposing to introduce a free of charge, dedicated motorcycle parking bay on Uxbridge Road.

Which motorcycles are permitted to park in the Caxton Village area?

  • motorcycles with a parking permit,
  • a motorcyclist visiting a resident using the residents' visitor permit
  • motorcycles who pay to park.

These streets include:

  • Aldine Street
  • Bulwer Street
  • Caxton Road
  • Hopgood Street
  • Macfarlane Road
  • Sterne Street
  • Shepherds Bush Place
  • Tadmor Street

How does this affect you if own a motorcycle in one of these streets?

Residents who own a motorcycle in the area and park on street will need to apply for a residents’ motorcycle permit. This measure will ensure that only residents who live in the area and own a motorcycle or those who have paid and displayed will be permitted to park in the residential streets as listed above.

You can continue to park off-street on private land free of charge. The cost of a motorcycle permit is at 50% discount - £59.50 for 12 months or £29.75 for 6 months.

This is a virtual permit and therefore does not need to be displayed on your motorcycle, your number plate is used to check if the motorcycle is registered to park.
