Accessibility statement for H&F careers

This accessibility statement applies to the H&F careers website. There’s a separate accessibility statement for the main H&F website.

This service is part of the wider H&F website and is run by Hammersmith & Fulham Council through our third-party supplier Hampshire County Council.

Using this service

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this service.

For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • get from the start of the service to the end using just a keyboard
  • get from the start of the service to the end using speech recognition software
  • listen to the service using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the text in the service as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible is this service

Some people may find parts of this service difficult to use:

  • headings and important text are marked up correctly
  • some pages are missing an H1 heading
  • the colour contrast between links and backgrounds are not sufficient enough

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’).

Technical information about this service’s accessibility

Hammersmith & Fulham Council is committed to making this service accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Colour contrast

The contrast ratio between links and the background colour in the header, footer and search bar is very low. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.3 (contrast - minimum). We also fail on this success criterion with the contrast ratio between link text and the background colour used on job adverts.

Images

The LinkedIn icon on the homepage is missing an alt text attribute and a text alternative. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content) and 2.4.4 (link purpose - in context).

The ID used for some elements is also used for other elements on the same page. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (information and relationships) and 4.1.1 (parsing).

The following pages all share the same H1 heading:

  • homepage
  • our offer
  • our people
  • our place

The H1 heading used isn't visible to users or descriptive of the page and content. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.6 (headings and labels). The main heading used on the 'our' pages are tagged as an H3 heading, meaning these pages skip a level heading (H2). This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (information and relationships).

The featured jobs pages are all missing a page title and an H1 heading. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (information and relationships) and 2.4.2 (page titled).

The bold tag has been used to mark up text on job adverts instead of the strong tag or headings. WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (information and relationships).

The search box is in different locations across the site. For example, on the 'our place' page it is at the bottom of the page. However on 'our offer' and 'our people', it is below the header. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 3.2.3 (consistent navigation).

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Pre-recorded video

The video on the homepage has subtitles but does not include an audio description that gets the information across verbally. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.2.5 (audio description pre-recorded).

The regulations do not apply to pre-recorded videos published before 23 September 2020. However, any new videos we publish will have edited captions, subtitles or be audibly described.
