Dozens of local learners were honoured for their achievements at Rivercourt Methodist Church in Hammersmith on Friday (4 July). The ceremony took place not far from the Macbeth Centre where the learners had been getting extra support with their studies from tutors employed by Hammersmith & Fulham Council.

The Macbeth Centre offers courses designed to help students with additional needs to help build confidence and find work. Awards were presented for employment projects, pre-employment skills and personal development.

Cllr Sharon Holder, Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham, joined the ceremony to give out this year's awards. She said:

It's truly inspiring to see how our tutors from the Macbeth Centre have helped Disabled residents thrive and feel part of our community. We're helping these students build skills, confidence and connections. This embodies our commitment to building a borough that is stronger, safer and kinder for all."

The event also featured dance, yoga and drama performances – ending with a floor-filling conga line dance. Check out the photos from the day.

Empowered by education

From maths and English to cookery, our students learned vital skills that can prepare them for work or help them gain more independence.

The courses offer tailored learning plans to meet their diverse needs to create a sense of community while helping to develop personal and social skills. The programme reflects our commitment to make learning inclusive and to doing things with residents, not to them.
