Register to vote for the General Election by 18 June

Most people will already have registered to vote in time for the London elections on 2 May. If you have not done so by now, you can still register for the General Election by midnight on Tuesday 18 June.

A General Election has now been called for Thursday 4 July when the whole country will elect Members of Parliament to represent 650 constituencies at Westminster.

Anyone over the age of 16 can apply to register to vote. In this type of election any British citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland is entitled to vote. (If you're 17 and turning 18 on or before 4 July, sign up before 18 June to get your vote in the General Election.)

Depending on where they live in H&F, residents will be voting for candidates in one of three Parliamentary constituencies, all of which are new:

  • Chelsea and Fulham
  • Ealing Central and Acton
  • Hammersmith and Chiswick.

Postal and proxy votes

If unable to vote in person at a local polling station on 4 July, residents can apply for a postal vote by 5pm on 19 June. The deadline for a proxy vote is 5pm on 26 June.

Voter ID required

We are advising residents to get ready with their voter ID – now that it is a requirement to vote in any election.

You can use a UK passport or driving licence and some travel passes but NOT an Oyster card (unless a 60+ Oyster card).
