The popular Brook Green Market reopens this Saturday (6 March) on a new, larger site with room for a dozen new stalls.
The popular market and kitchen has moved to nearby St Mary’s primary, two streets away from its old Addison primary site, just in time for spring.
All the usual favourites that have turned the market into the premier food hub of West Kensington will still be there, but after six successful years the market now has the elbow room to expand further.
Under the banner ‘More than just a Farmers’ Market’, the 40 stalls feature organic, free-range produce, cookery demos, tastings, talks and live music.
The aim, says organiser Push Dhawan, is to “create a place where you can buy the best quality produce, extend your cooking skills, try new and exotic produce and street food, and interact with foodies and the community”.
There is play equipment for younger visitors, and everything is open from 9.30am to 3pm this Saturday.
Market goers are urged to wear face masks and maintain social distancing. Check out the new location at St Mary’s Primary School, Masbro Road (on Google Maps).
Newcomers
Nine newcomers this weekend include: jian bing specialists Pleasant Lady (think Chinese pancakes filled with duck, Iberico ham and tofu); Smallfry, a new venture by Quo Vadis chef Matthew Dykes (tempura dayboat fish with crispy seaweed); and A Lovely Bunch of Coconuts (charcoal-fired Mauritian barbecue).
On the produce front there are handmade pies by Copper Rattle, organic wine from Wingnut, Spanish imports at Finer Things Deli and croissants from west London newcomers Buns From Home.
The aim is to make St Mary’s school feel more like a festival, with future features (when restrictions lift) including an indoor lifestyle and art market, picnic area and covered seating.
