New, secure bike hangars are being installed on council estates across the borough – to help you keep your bike safe, de-clutter your home and communal areas.

Cycling is becoming more and more popular in the borough, as we work to make our streets as safe and accessible as possible for carbon neutral transport.

But one of the biggest problems of being an urban cyclist is where to store your bike.

“We want people to be safe, on their bikes and off them,” said Cllr Lisa Homan, H&F Cabinet Member for Housing.

“We don’t want anything getting in the way of residents in their homes, should there be an emergency such as a fire, so safe and purpose-built bike hangars are a great addition - intended to help residents who choose pedal-power for getting around.

We’ve invested in new bike hangars on 12 of our estates, which are all made of robust steel, are tested to the highest standards for security - maximising the available space to store the highest number of bikes.

The new bike hangars have or will soon be installed at:

  • Aspen Gardens
  • Barclay Close
  • Becklow Gardens
  • Bulow Court
  • Clem Attlee
  • Edward Woods Estate
  • Emlyn Gardens
  • Fulham Court
  • Philpot Square
  • Springvale Estate
  • Sulivan Court
  • William Church Estate.

Residents were key to making this happen, with a panel of local people deciding how and where to spend money from the Neighbourhood Improvement Fund.

They will provide keys on a first come, first served basis. We’re sorry, but the bike storage is for adult bike storage only.

“Residents told us they wanted more secure cycle storage options, built for the modern environment, and we’re expecting these new bike hangars to be very popular,” said Cllr Homan.

“Cutting your carbon footprint shouldn’t be a chore, and we want to make cycling as easy and secure as possible in H&F.”
