Young actors from White City are strutting the stage in a production organised by the National Theatre.

Members of the White City Youth Theatre will be appearing in the play CHAOS at the Lyric Hammersmith as part of the National Theatre’s Connections series.

It’s a glorious chance for budding young west London actors to showcase their talents.

The date to remember is Friday 3 May when, at 7pm, the show, by Laura Lomas, is performed; one of 10 new plays written especially for Connections in a commissioning drive to encourage the cream of new playwrights.

It’s a provocative play – a mix of seemingly dislocated, but interconnected, scenes. “It’s about a series of characters searching for meaning in a complicated and unstable world,” explained Laura. “Bouncing through physics, the cosmos, love and violence, they find order in the disorder of each other.”

Rufus Norris, the National Theatre director, said that the Connections programme was a real opportunity for young actors to make their mark.

“It’s built on the belief that young people in every corner of the UK should have the opportunity to experience and take part in theatre,” he said. “We are excited to welcome youth theatre companies and schools to take part.”

The White City Youth Theatre members are getting involved with every aspect of putting on the show.

Set up in 2008, the company rehearses during term time on Mondays at the Bush Theatre in Uxbridge Road, Shepherds Bush.

Young people from the White City and Shepherds Bush area work with professional actors and writers, creating their own drama works and being taken on outings to West End shows.

Tickets to the performance at the Lyric Hammersmith in Lyric Square, off King Street, are £5. The show is suitable for ages 12+. Book via the box office on 020 8741 6822 or by visiting the Lyric Hammersmith website.
