Residents are already reaping the rewards of a free Hammersmith & Fulham Council-funded service to help them live long happy lives by keeping their hearts healthy.

Healthy Hearts is a cardiovascular disease prevention service helping residents improve their health through lifestyle education, practical skills and physical activity.

Hammersmith-based healthy lifestyle experts Thrive Tribe run the pioneering service. It aims to improve the health of residents’ hearts and reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes and last month reached its target membership for March 2017 of 400 participants.

“This service is vital to help residents at risk of some form of cardiovascular disease get help to live longer, healthier lives,” said Cllr Vivienne Lukey, H&F Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care.

“It’s fantastic to see first-hand how popular the scheme has been and it is really rewarding to know we’re helping fund a service that can bring such a positive change to residents’ lives.”

The Healthy Hearts programme includes free courses such as weight management support, healthy cooking and physical activity clubs.

Of those who have taken part in the scheme to date, 75 per cent have seen a reduction in at least one area where they were at risk of cardiovascular disease. In Hammersmith & Fulham, more than 16,000 residents are at risk of some form of cardiovascular disease.
