The gilded bronze statue of Helios
It is not often that a Greek god casually drops into White City. But that is exactly what happened at Television Centre recently.
The gilded bronze statue of Helios, the mythological god of the sun, has been restored to its gleaming former glory as part of the redevelopment of the BBC's former home.
The three-metre-high statue stood at the centre of Television Centre's famous ‘doughnut’ structure, from the opening of the complex in 1960.
It represents the radiation of television light around the world.
Alistair Shaw, Managing Director of Television Centre, said: “Television Centre is a British icon and the Helios statue is synonymous with this famous building.”
